Amitabh Bachchan attends his ‘idol’ Dilip Kumar’s funeral, son Abhishek Bachchan accompanies him

Veteran actor and Bollywood icon Dilip Kumar died at the age of 98 on Wednesday after suffering from age-related health issues. As the film industry mourned his demise, several stars and politicians including Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar arrived at his residence in Mumbai to pay their last respects.

The legendary actor’s last rites were performed today at Juhu Muslim Cemetery in Santacruz West, around 5 pm with full state honours, as had been declared by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. After the last rites, megastar Amitabh Bachchan arrived at the Santacruz Kabristan to pay last respects to his ‘idol’, Dilip Kumar. He was also accompanied by his son, Abhishek Bachchan.

Earlier in the day, Big B shared a photo of himself with his Dilip Kumar along with an emotional note. He wrote, “My idol Dilip Saheb .. lost .. never before never after .. “an epic era has drawn curtains .. never to happen again” Peace and duas ..”

Amitabh Bachchan also took to Twitter to extend his condolences. “T 3958 – An institution has gone .. whenever the history of Indian Cinema will be written , it shall always be ‘before Dilip Kumar, and after Dilip Kumar’ .. My duas for peace of his soul and the strength to the family to bear this loss .. Deeply saddened,” he wrote in his tweet.

Amitabh and Dilip Kumar had shared screen space in the 1983 film ‘Shakti’. The entire entertainment fraternity mourned the demise of the the ‘tragedy king of Bollywood’. 

In his career spanning over six decades, Dilip Kumar had an great contribution to Indian cinema,. He acted in over 65 films in his career and is known for his iconic roles in movies like ‘Devdas’ (1955), ‘Naya Daur’ (1957), ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ (1960), ‘Ganga Jamuna’ (1961), ‘Kranti’ (1981), and ‘Karma’ (1986). His last film was ‘Qila’, which was released in 1998. He is now survived by his wife and veteran actor Saira Banu.
